Q: Question about CV Joint ???
I noticed my wifes KIa spectra was making a clicking racket when she turned sharp in to front end.. I checked it closer and noticed the cv boot on the driver side was torn and the noise was coming from the outer joint.. My question is . should I replace the whole shaft assembly on that side our a CV kit for the outer joint.. what is my best option for this project..
2001 kia spectra ..
Great Answers !! Thanks Fellas
A: In the long run it will be cheaper to replace the whole axle. If you are mechanically inclined I would recommend doing it yourself and finding a local axle rebuilder and have them do it for less.
Q: Im getting a system and have a few questions please take some time to help.?
alright heres the deal..
i got a 2001 kia spectra and im completly redoing the sound system
here is all i plan to get..
front speakers (kicker)
rear speakers (kicker)
a new alpine radio changer
a 12" kicker l5
probox
zx750.1 kicker amp
now here is another thing.. later on since money is the main issue right now i will be getting a second kicker l5 to go with it.. so assuming ill have 2 do you think i can fit them into the trunk?
also that amp im getting do you think it can power both of the subs with ease? because i don't understand if it can put 750 rms to each sub or only one and if i ran both subs to it if it would only half my output so making it 375 rms to each sub... if you could clear that all up it would be great.
A: These subs are 600watts rms, and 1200 max. the 750.1 to one sub is fine, but to too...might not push them both to the limits...would probably run them ok....but not great...
Other thing really depends on what ohms the voice coils are of the subwoofers.
This one here is 2ohm.
http://www.millionbuy.com/kik08s12l52.html
The 750.1 is 2 ohm stable at 750 watts.
http://www.subwooferboxshop.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=08ZX7501&Category_Code=monoa&Store_Code=SBS
So realistically only one sub is going to work.
with this amp.
Two subs at 2ohm each would make it 4ohm. Which would make full power at 350watts ONLY....so split that into two subs, and you are only putting ~175 watts per sub.
So if you plan for growth later, you will need to figure out what you want to do here....otherwise you are losing the amp later on and settling for a new amp later that will push the two subs.
Q: Are there any cars made now without timing belts?
And for those that have them, how long should they last on a typical sedan or compact car? Also, do they start slipping like the other belts when they're about to go bad or do they just one day go out and lock your engine up?
FYI one of my cars is a 2001 Hyundai Elantra and the other is a 2006 Kia Spectra 5. The Elantra has a few belts slipping which got me worrying about the timing belt. I'm not worried about the Kia, I know I've got plenty of time before worrying about it.
A: Almost every car on the road has a timing belt or chain, with a select few high end performance cars using gear drives instead. Belts and chains wear and stretch over time. Usually the time to start being concerned is around 80,000 miles or so, sooner if the engine is driven hard. If the belt breaks or slips, it can cause expensive damage to the valve train and head.
Q: Are any of these cheap cars worth buying then reselling for profit?
1999 Tracer $900
2001 Cavalier $3000
2001 Mirage $3200
2003 Kia Spectra $5500
All are auto/air/pw/pdl
Or are they not worth the effort?
1999 Suburban 4WD $6000
A: If you can buy them for 1/10th the price you listed it might be worth the investment.
Any of those cars are not considered hot sellers. So even getting a good deal on one will mean having to sit on it for a long time. A used car dealer would want to get into them for nothing (take them in as a "downpayment" trade for instance). At auction they may bring roughly half of the price you have listed... if they are in good shape with average miles.
If investing in vehicles check out the www.kbb.com site. Look at the trade-in value and understand that you want to buy it for less then half of that price (and only then if you can get rid of it in a reasonable period of time).
Q: What is the unfiltered truth on 2001 Volvo XC Cross Country's?
Having just recently totaled my Kia Spectra (hit a deer, God I wish those things would think before they take a sprint in front of my car), I am looking for a used car. Saw a 2001 Volvo XC Cross Country for $8800.00-and I can put down half of that price now. Carfax checked out-great mileage. Already took it for a drive-love it. Is this a good deal or is there more than meets the eye on this? Would like to know the truth on 2001 Volvo XC Cross Country's. I'm a commuter and really want something reliable that I can trust-I know it looks like a 'mom' car-and I'm 24-but at this point in the game, I really want something that is more professional.
A: XC stands for cross-country- the XC70 is really geared more towards those who off-road. If you are a commuter, you would be better off with a Volvo V70 as opposed to the XC70. You might also look at the Saab 9-5, or a used Audi A4/ BMW 3.
Q: Thinking about buying a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero....Any reviews??
My 2002 Kia Spectra just out and died on me. Should I go for the Alero or another Kia???
A: Personally i would go to the olds. More stylish. But gas could be an issue. But if youre not worried to much bout that then i would say yes the olds. Good luck on your decision
Q: Was 1999 a bad year for Kias?
I am thinking of getting a 99 kia at a ridiculously low price *600*, i am very skeptical due to my prior experience with Kias.. I had a 2001 Spectra GS and it was very costly to repair. I am wondering if anyone had any info on 99 kias ALL models.
A: i bought a kia brand new with just 2 miles on it and it was a lemon to start with nothing was ever covered under the 100000 mile warranty because they kept telling me that the part that damged the part under warranty was not coverd under warranty the check engine light was always on and that car only had about 5000 miles on it. i traded it in for a civic and ive 3000 on this car and no problems id like to thank my mechanic for guiding me to a great car.

A: You can not buy just the cover, as it is connected to the entire housing. They are not that cheap though. Check out your local junk yards and ebay.

A: It's called a tail light lens or just tail light since you can't buy just the lens any more. I'm not correcting you to be a smart aleck, you'll need the right term when you're looking for the part, either at the dealer or other parts store, or online. The lenses are definitely not cheap. Sometimes it's less expensive to buy the after market type that people put on to dress up their cars, but since you only need one side it might not be. They are very simple to install and if you have to order it locally ask them if they will install it for free.

Q: Which car is best for a first car?
We need to buy a first car for our 18 year old son to drive to and from college, but we are from the UK and just don't know which makes of car are good as they're mostly different to the ones we see in the UK.
We are looking for safety, decent miles per gallon, reliability and inexpensive for parts and labor.
These cars are all stick shift as that's what we drive and they are all Southern Californian cars.
Please can you tell me which of these cars are worth going to see, or is there a certain make and model of car we should be looking for?

2003 Kia Spectra Sedan $4,450 53,979 miles
2000 Mazda Protege DX $3,800 85,000 miles
A: Newer is better, Asian is better on fuel and reliability, parts for Asian is similar to American, all are better then European which is the least reliable and most expensive on parts too. Oh, and remember these are the asking prices, some like the Accent and Protege seem inflated by $1000 at least.
In order:
3 best, all excellent values.

Q: Car trouble?
Ok I have two cars. My main car is a 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara the ac is not blowing cold & the ck engine light is not on. The heater works fine. Is low freon the only possible solution?
My other car is a Kia Spectra the ac runs great but the heater does not work & the ck engine light is on...what could be the problem?
Thanks
A: sometimes its best to take to mechanic right away to check these problems directly, before more problems occur and hide original cause,
2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara
http://www.carsdirect.com/2001/suzuki/grand_vitara
~low freon would be first to thing to check, also check belts or ceased pulley, open hood and turn on ac, if pump works and pipes turn cold, then other problem would be cause, like fans or blocked vents
Kia Spectra

~ check engine light and no heat, may be good to check anti freeze level in radiator reservoir container, if low or empty, fill/ top up right away before using vehicle, also may be time to get tune up for oils and other routine maintenance,

Q: Which car financing company finance teenagers?
Okay, here’s the gist. I’m a teenager with my permit, & been driving since I was 14(just driving around in the neighborhood than progressed to roads with traffic lights, than highways) with my parents. Plus, they both have huge SUV’s and I’m a safe driver. In fact, my parents are so happy that I’m not into convertibles or sports cars because the insurance will be so expensive. I prefer driving an SUV or a spacious car. (Nothing small like a Kia Spectra, or a Hyundai Electra.) I’m tall (6”2’), so I need comfortable space for my legs. I completed driving school and my 6 hours on the road with my instructor, and I had to drive a small Kia Spectra which was very uncomfortable.
ANYWAYS, let me get to my point. I’m looking for a nice dependable car that is nice. (under $8000.00) as long as it has it’s unique special look to it, I will be fine… like the 1999- 2001 Volvo S80 or the BMW 528i or the 2007 Jeep Patriot, etc. I’m looking for a company that would finance a teenager around my age
A: NO ONE will finance a car for anyone under 18, because you cannot legally enter into a contract.
