Q: Car Grinding noise when putting into drive or reverse?
I have a 2006 Kia Sorento and today noticed that whenever I put the car into reverse or drive, their is a grinding noise. The noise leaves once I remove my foot from the brake. Could this be due to weather conditions as it has been raining and snowing all day and it is starting to get warm outside. I thought could of been transmission or brakes but brakes are not making any noise while stopping when driving, only when the car is put into reverse or drive from park. Hope this question makes sense, please help!!!!!
A: It is possible that the disks on your wheels get cruddy, pick up scale and even rust - when you move forward or reverse that crud scrapes on the brake pads. After you drive a minute or two that crud grinds off.
If you have a lot of miles on your brake pads there is a little metal thing that rubs on the disk to remind you to change the brakes. This is an annoying sound.
You could have a piece of plastic that is rubbing on a tire or wheel, something could be rubbing or dragging when going slow but when you speed up the wind moves that item away from the rub area.
You can have someone listen while you move the car and see if they can pinpoint the noise. You can jack up the car and turn the wheel by hand to see if it is a wheel.
My best bet is crud/scale on the disks from salt, water, sand, etc.
Good luck.

Q: How do you drive a 4x4 and when?
I never had a car with a 4x4 before, and it's been snowing. I was sliding everywhere, and I think I should try the 4x4. I have to drive 50 miles to work I own a 2006 kia sorento and the options are 2wd, 4x4, 4 high, 4 low ( I know thats usually for towing) but on my gear shifts there is also a plus and minus and I have no idea why. I bought it used and the owners manual wasn't in there. Please help.
A: 4x4 absolutely does help driving in snow. Anybody who says otherwise must not know how to drive in snow. the 4 hi and 4 low would be locking the differential together. This gives the best traction if you are in extremely slippery surfaces like deep snow. Do not use these modes on dry pavement ever. It can break the transfer case. low range is good for low speeds under 35 mph. read the owners manual or look on the visor above your head to see how to shift into these modes. Usually have to be in park or neutral depending on the car. 4x4 is most likely a type of on demand awd setting that you can leave it in for slippery conditions and the system will engage the 4x4 if any wheels start to slip. You need to read the owners manual. If you don't have one for some odd reason it didn't come with one, get one from the dealer.
the + or - is probably for semi manual shift. + to shift up a gear and - to go down.
Q: which car should i buy?
i'm looking to buy my first car soon =D
i kind of want a new one, but a cheap one. maybe like $12,000 or under. i will buy a used one as long as it only has about 50,000 miles or so...and it's a newer model, like a 2003 or later. i've done some research and i've come up with a few cars that i might want. but i really don't know much about cars, so could anyone help me? which car is the best running, lasts the longest, most safe, etc. i'm not using this to race or anything so i don't care if it doesn't go fast. and i'm planning on taking care of it. yes, i'm only 16 but i take care of my stuff, especially since i'm buying this on my own. so don't tell me to get the cheapest car because i'll crash it anyway =D
chevy aveo (new 2006 for like $12,000)
chevy cavalier
honda civic
scion tC
kia sorento
also which one should i stay far away from?
haha i've been saving for the last year and i have a lot of money in the bank that ive been saving from christmas and bdays and stuff..and im only doing a down payment..maybe like half
A: chevy aveo (new 2006 for like $12,000), only you get one very cheap
chevy cavalier don't pay more than 6k for an used one
honda civic take care of cars who has been raced, good but a new one is expensive
scion tC this is a toy car, not very safe
kia sorento expensive on gas, not reliable.
What about a Pontiac Vibe or a Corolla.
