Q: Has anyone else with a 2003 KIA Sedona had any transmission problems?
My van has 108,000 miles on it, I bought it new in 2003. It was running fine and without any warning, I stopped at a light and the engine rev'ed but it was like the gas pedal was not connected to the engine. My van would not move.
I had to have it towed and the shop is telling me the transmission needs to be rebuilt.
Isn't this kind of soon (108,000 miles) for a transmission to die without any previous problems. It never leaked fluid, studdered or anything else.
Has anyone heard of any manufacturer (KIA) defects of the 2003 Sedona?
A: I don't think this is a particular defect by the manufacturer, certainly nothing you could try to get them to pay for at any rate. My Nissan Maxima needed a new transmission at 125,000 miles, my co-workers Chevy Trailblazer needed one at 65,000 miles and a friends Acura 2.3 CL needed one at 115,000 miles. I'm sorry you need a transmission, but they can go at any time without warning. Since you only have 108,000 miles, I'd suggest having a new transmission installed. It's a good idea to get at least 2 quotes. Oh, and worse, my mom bought a 1989 Eagle Premier that needed 2 transmissions before it got to 40,000 miles...those were covered by the warranty though...thank god.
Q: I have a 2003 kia sedona Ex, and whenever I drive it, there is a high pitched screeching sound...?
Whenever I drive it, no matter how far, there is a high pitched metal on metal screeching sound. When it idles, with the brakes applied while in drive/neutral, or in park, there is no sound. I had a mechanic check it out really quick, but it was in park, thus no sound, and all he said was that it definitely isn't my belt, because it all appeared to be in line, and the belt isn't to horrible looking.
My dad couldn't hear the sound, but that's not saying much, but he checked the brake fluid, and the switch, and there was nothing wrong with it he said. He is fairly mechanically inclined, so I trust his judgment a bit.
If you need, I'll try to post a sound bit of it, but I really would like to know what could be causing it. It has 36k miles, and I keep it in the best shape I can with what little money I make. It has had all the routine check-ups, as stated in the manual, and I use the best liquids/oils/etc. that I can afford.
Thanks a bunch
A: Have your brakes checked, there are warning tabs on the front pads that contact the rotors when they are near the end of use. Noise won't occur at idle or when brakes are applied.
Q: Kia Sedona Warm Up Catalyst code?
2003 Kia Sedona, 4.3L 6 cyl, 117,000 miles, regular 3,000 mile oil and filter changes, air filter and transmission fluid/filter changes, no other engine maintenance. Twice engine light came on. Code is "Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold". Both times car had been driven over one hour; leaving interstate highway (high speed 65 mph), after making right hand loop exit ramp (slowing down to 30 mph), engine light came on.
What should I check/replace first?
ManassasRalph
A: Customer Concern: P0431
Tests/Procedures: 1. Monitor the front and rear oxygen sensors while driving the vehicle at approximately 55 miles an hour. The oxygen sensors should cross-count consistently 8-10 times per 10 seconds.
2. Monitor the fuel trims for being normal at idle and at 55 MPH steady cruise.
3. Check the inlet to outlet temperature on the catalytic converter. Generally the rear should be 50 degrees, or more, hotter.
Potential Causes: Faulty oxygen sensor
Catalytic converter
Tech Tips: It is possible to save the catalytic converter by grounding one spark plug wire and running the engine at 2500 RPM for 2-3 minutes. Raising the temperature of the catalytic converter can sometimes bring them back into good operating condition. Always replace the front oxygen sensor when a code P0420 has been set. The oxygen sensor is what makes the catalytic converter work properly.
Q: Need to replace a fuse but the map is missing? (03 Kia Sedona)?
Okay. 2003 Kia Sedona.
There is no power whatsoever going to the radio/cd/cassette. The domelights in the roof that are not effected by opening the doors (because those are fine). So we've deduced that it's a fuse....
but the lid of the fusebox where the map that tells you what fuse is what is not there and the dealership did not replace it. Just need to know which one we need to replace. A link to the map or a list or whatever? Please and thank you! (the fusebox in the wall by the driver's side, yes?)
A: ummm, why not just spend the 2 minutes it would take you to pull out each fuse(one at a time now),inspect it and replace it until you find the burned one??You could have been done already within the time you read the answers you get on this page, times a wastin!
Q: kia sedona 2.9 turbo diesel auto 2003 model?
There is a little button on the gear selector marked H what is it's purpose. Details in the instruction booklet are almost non existant.
A: I think the H stands for hold ie. if you have selected a lower gear to climb a steep hill the H butten should hold it in that gear, try it out good luck!
Q: Where can I get a remote starter installed in my vehicle in Rochester, NY area?
I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado and a 2003 Kia Sedona.
A: Check with your Chevrolet dealer first. Some do and some don't. Other wise go to the yellow pages and find a reputable firm that does that work. This is one of those jobs that has to be done right the first time and done properly. There is a harness kit available that eliminates cutting into any of the existing wiring harness. For all the extra that it costs you it is the only way to go. In fact the difference in labour time will pay for the harness. Stay clear of the guys that use wire clips to make the connections. or you will learn the meaning of trouble down the road in a few years.
Q: I have a strange sound when the A/C is running?
I have a 2003 Kia Sedona & whenever I run the A/C (almost always in Florida) it makes a weird noise - not really a schreech, but it is loud & its constant. I don't get a noise when I use the defrost, heater or just the vent - does anyone know what this could be? I can hear it from both inside & outside the car, but as soon as I turn off the A/C the noise stops.
A: it sounds like the a/c clutch is going out, the bearings get worn and they will squeak or squeal constantly when worn.
It could also be the belt drive? It could also be that your AC system is low on fluid. There is compressor oil inside the housing and if that or the refrigerant runs low they can also cause issues.
Q: What is the advantage for having "Quadracam" (4 camshaft) against DOHC or SOHC?
p.s. I have 2003 Kia Carnival (Sedona) V6, 2.5 Liters, 32 valves, "Quadracam" engine
Correction please, engine has 24 Valves (not 32).
A: Advantages:
Higher revving, better flow, more torque, faster throttle response, possibly better fuel effficiency
Disadvantages:
More prone to high cost repairs, regular maintenance more critical, higher initial cost

Anyway, our cig lighter doesnt work.
No casset Player.
Dont make me spend ALOT of moneyy.
(:
PLEASE HELP!!
A: ok, well there are a few simple non expensive ways you could go, for your cig. lighter, the fuse is probably burnt out, jus replace that, it'll probably cost bout five or six bucks, if not, then get a fm transmitter, you could get one of amazon or ebay, not more than five bucks, and another five for S&H. thats bout it, the last option, jus buy a new cd reciever, won't cost more than forty bucks, and will have a port for your ipod.
