Q: 2002 Kia Rio Car Vibration?
For the past few months my car (2002 Kia Rio 4 Door, 82,000 miles) has been vibrating when I go between 55-65mph. It is vibrating in the wheel and throughout my car (my passenger seatbelt even vibrates loudly). Thinking it was my front tires, I had my front tires replaced and balanced. That did not solve the issue - Now there is a loud noise coming from the back of my car. When I go 65mph my car vibrates badly and the noise overpowers the radio. When I look at my car from a distance it looks like it is leaning down on the left hand side. I took my car to have the rear tires balanced thinking that would solve the issue. I was told that I have an uneven treadwear on the driver rear tire. Someone has already checked the wheel bearings in the rear and found them to be in good condition. I've replaced the front two tires and the passenger rear tire. I am not sure what the problem could be. Any ideas?

A: Get it aligned. Same thing happened on my wife's 2002 Kia Rio 4 door. It has about 65k miles. It would vibrate so bad that you couldn't drive it faster than 65 without feeling like your teeth were going to fall out. We got hers aligned, and it was like a new car again.

Q: 2002 Kia Rio?
I have a 2002 Kia Rio and it drives horrible. I can't drive it over 60 mph without it shaking like crazy, and the steering wheel shakes all the time, even at low speeds. Also, every time it's trying to shift over 20 mph some times in sticks in gear! Does anyone know what I can try to at least maybe get rid of the shaking. Its an automatic transmission and its practically brand new, so I think I'll take it back to the AAMCO place to have the tran. adjusted or something. I just got the transmission replaced not even a year ago, so it has a warranty on it. I am going to call AAMCO and see if they can just adjust it or something.

A: It's a kia and they are known for lousey auto trannys, I know I ued to work as a service advisor at a Kia store. Sorry to say, They are junk! The shaking sounds like a suspension problem or the wheels need to be balanced. The big expense witll be the tranny, get the tranny fluid changed first, that might help.

Q: should i take the 2002 kia rio
my dad is GIVING me my dear old grandmothers 2002 KIA RIO because she is really old and forgets wheres shes going sometimes when she drives lol. However every one is telling me to trade it in for a better car. I DONT have a problem driving it because it looks great and is excellent condition cuz she hardly ever drove it. I just want to know what car should i trade it in for and how much do i expect to pay out of pocket. ALSO is this a good idea because im am a struggling college student with NOOOOO EXTRA money

A: Do not trade it in. The Kia Rio is one of the cheapest cars to insure and great on gas and cheap to maintain and fix. In 2002, reliability of Kia's were average. In the 90's, reliability of Kia's were bad. So they still have a bad reputation eventhough they are now good cars. Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra, Mitsubishi Lancer. These are very expensive to insure because lots of teenagers and college students have them and crash them. So the insurance rates are high for those cars.

Q: 2002 kia rio dash lights wont light up, the speedometer, rpm, heat gauges dont work and tail lights dont work?
2002 kia rio dash lights wont light up, the speedometer, rpm, heat gauges dont work and tail lights dont work, how do you know if the fuses are burned out? the tail lights work when i push on the break but at night they wont stay on when im not on the break...also none of the gauges work on the car and the dash wont light up so i can see what speed im going or what not(if my speedometer and other gauges worked...which they dont...) what could this be?? i need help

A: Well G...Safe Bet Is to check out your fuses....what your going to do ese is you will locate your fuse box nawmean! it should be inside your hood or under the dash on the drivers side....get a pair of needle nose pliers and a flashlight.... on your fuse rellay diagram it will show you which fuse does what....your going to pull out the fuse with the pliers and then shine your flashlight through the fuse, if its black or the metal part in the middle is broken, that means you have a blown fuse...aight VATO!!! If you end up having to replace a fuse....look at the top of the fuse there will be a number.....just replace the fuse with another fuse that has the same number!!! Fuses are like 25 cents each!!! ARIBA ESE!!!

Q: Heating/AC in my 2002 Kia Rio???
I hope someone can help or has had this problem! I have a 2002 kia rio, and earlier this year, the ac stopped working, it wouldnt blow any air at all. so i changed the blower motor resistor, and it worked for about 1.5 more months. then stopped again. so i changed the resistor AND the blower motor, but it keeps popping the fuses instantly. We checked the voltage, and it is pulling only about 17 amps max and it uses a 30 amp fuse. Does anyone have ANY idea as to what it could be or what to try next?? I am getting desperate with winter coming, i need heat!!! Thanks in advance. Also if you find something online, which i havent, links would be awesome!!!!

A: This problem cannot be diagnosed over the internet, I would suggest taking it to a reputable repair facility and have the problem diagnosed by an ase certified technician, good luck.

Q: Is this a reliable car? 2002 Kia Rio?
This will be my first car and when I get it, I won't be driving it much at all. I'll only use it to drive to school and back and to my friend's house on weekends, so probably less than 4000 miles a year. I'm gettin a white 2002 Kia Rio. It only has 42K miles on it so its still under warranty and it costs $4000. But is it a reliable car? And will I have to pay alot for insurance? Im 17, a boy, and I live in maryland. Also, the insurance policy will only be under me and not my parents because my parents dont drive so I'm the only driver in the house. Thanks! here's the car: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=230850659&dealer_id=100016144&car_year=2002&num_records=25&systime=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=Gasoline&search_type=both&distance=25&marketZipError=false&search_lang=&first_record=1&make=&keywords_display=&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=mileageASC&max_mileage=100000&style_flag=1&sort_type=mileageASC&address=20770&advanced=y&end_year=2008&pager.offset=0&doors=&transmission=Automatic&max_price=4000&cardist=15

A: Well.. you are young, so you probably wont get a discount for you auto insurance, unless your parents own the house u live in and have insurance on it, if they do, then go to whomever their agent is, because u would most of the times apply for a homeowners discount on your auto. the Kia Rios is alright, not the most fun, but reliable and great on gas which at your age is what you need, just be careful on wet road and snow, I am also from Maryland and that is sometimes an issue, I dont think the Rio has ABS, so always be on the lookout for panic stops, Dont listen to the "mustang is fun" it is, but comes with an insurance price, plus is a RWD, so it sucks on snow. and isnt great on gas. and 4k a year? that isnt a lot. you will be doing at least 10K a year, I am only 20 and I do like 15k a year, but just remember, always go speed limit or no more than 5miles more than limit, be on the defensive, always asume you are not notice by big trucks, and you'll be fine. but dont go for the first deal, always look it up in other places before buying it.

Q: I have a major problem with my 2002 Kia Rio?
I own a 2002 Kia Rio and on Monday the car stalled on me and wouldn't turn back on. I figured it was the alternator, but when I called the mechanic it was my engine that locked up and seized. So now I have to get a new motor in the thing. I just had the thing maintenanced and serviced complete with a new timing belt. So now I'm wondering if it would be wise to just try a used engine instead of completely new engine? The thing is I don't have $4,000 for a new engine but I also don't want the thing to break down on me again. I just need some advice on what to do because I don't have a car at the moment until I can figure out what to do. Just this summer, I had to put a new transmission in it because the axil was jammed inside of it so I'm thinking that I have a lemon on my hands! :( Thanks for the help

A: Dear Lindsay, only a qualified auto technician should own a Kia.

Q: Should get I get a new timing belt on a 2002 Kia Rio even if I am not have problems?
I have a 2002 Kia rio. This Past week I had notice a braket hanging from underneath my car. To Make a long story short, I had taken the car into the dealship and they had told me that I needed a new timeing belt to be put in. However, I have not been haveing problems with the car or nothing. But the dealship told me that if I don't get a new timeing belt to be put in, the pistions inside the motor will explode and I would need a new engine. I realy don't know what to do. Can any one help me?

A: your pistons will not explode when your timing belt breaks or comes off, your valves are no longer going up and down, due to fact that belt not turning camshaft that makes them go up and down. This in turn can cause your pistons to come up and hit the valves, causing broken or bent valves, that's all, but this is a big deal. Look in your maintenance book and see what mileage they say to change timing belt. usually around 100K miles. I would rather change as a precaution when manufacture says to, then have to change along with replacing valves, and paying hefty shop bill.

Q: is 2002 KIA rio good car : is it good on Gas, ?
I am going to buy this 2002 KIa Ria with 51000 miles on it, but I don't know how reliable it is and how much miles does it cover per gallon...the seller give me so many reasons to believe that it is a good car but I do not know if I should believe him...please tell me if you have any car knowledge.

A: No.. not a good car! it's super loud, cheap, handles horribly, is underpowered, and only gets about 31 MPG with the 5-speed. What kind of tiny car wtih 95 horsepower only gets 31 MPG on the highway, the Rio that's what. Add: note that the 2008 Rio is completely different than the 2002 models.

Q: how do I change the motor in a 2002 KIA RIO?

A: To start remove the hood and disconnect the battery and remove it,then drain the cooling system remove the radiator and disconnect the heater hoses from the engine, then drain the engine oil then crawl under the car WHILE IT IS SUPPORTED BY JACK STANDS NOT JUST BY A JACK while under there remove the bolts that connect the transaxle to the engine that are underneath the car THE NEXT STEP IS ONLY REQUIRED IF YOU HAVE A AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION if you do remove the cover at the bottom of the transaxle and you will see some bolts that connect the flexplate/flywheel to the torque converter YOU WILL HAVE TO ROTATE THE ENGINE TO ACESS ALL OF THEM ONE WAY OF DOING THIS IS A SOCKET AND BREAKER BAR ON THE BOTTOM ENGINE PULLEY OR YOU CAN TRY ROTATION THE FLEXPLATE/FLYWHEEL WITH A PRY BAR AGAINST THE TEETH ON IT BUT DON'T DAMAGE THE TEETH.Then disconnect the exhaust system from the manifolds a can of PB BLASTER RUST BUSTER WILL HELP IF THEY ARE STUCK then crawl out from under the car and attach your hoist to the engine and take the weight of the engine off the motor mounts and then remove the bolts on the motor mounts and remove the remaining bolts that connect the engine to the tranaxle. Then with a helper watching for any connections that may have been missed CAREFULLY lift the engine out of the car and the instalation is just the reverse of how you took it out. A motors foreign car shop manual WHICH CAN BE BOUGHT AT ANY LARGE PARTS STORE WILL BE A BIG HELP TOO

Q: i have a 2002 kia rio we ran a test on it it said are rpms are to high how can we fix that cheaply?
