Q: Whats the purpose of the big 3 upgrade and do I need to do it?
I'm confuse about the big 3 thing. I've asked question about it before but I'm confused. I'm only push 500 watts rms, but I recently killed a factory car battery and got a new factory battery for free. But do I need to just do the big 3, upgrade my battery, upgrade my alternator? I don't know what needs to be done. I drive a 2007 Kia Optima

A: The big 3 is an upgrade to your stock electrical wiring. Its use is when you add electronics to your car that require more current than your factory wiring can safely conduct. If a large amount of current goes through your factory wiring it will gradually warm up, and the insulation may melt and you'll have a short circuit. Adding to or replacing your stock wiring will allow a larger amount of current to be conducted without it overheating. Be careful not to blast your stereo with the engine off or with it idling. Doing either of those will lay the smack down on your battery. Because an alternator is only going to put out enough current for your amp and for charging your battery and everything else once your rpm's get up around 1500 or so, and if the engine is off, the battery is just getting drained and that's always bad. A good, deep-cycle battery, like a optima yellow top or a kinetic is probably your best bet. I doubt you'd need the big 3 for that kind of wattage.

Q: Battery Life with car system question?
I've got a 2007 Kia Optima with: Autotek AT1000 1000W 2/1 Ch. Bridgeable Class A/B Amplifier 2 Lanzar MAXP124D Max Pro Series 12" Subwoofers running at 500 watts rms and with 4 gauge power/ground wire and 12 gauge speaker wire for the sub at 4ohms. My battery recently went dead with less then 2 years of owning the car and just 1.5 year with the system hooked up. I know it isn't a major system though. What would be the best option to increase the battery life on my car with a car audio system like mines.

A: sounds like someone likes to listen to the music with the engine not running thats a no no and Bill the amperage on the car is fine with the 105 amp alt.... Hes not pulling THAT much power.
